New Delhi: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has introduced a real-time gross settlement (RTGS) system for its customers. The facility is open 24 hours a day, all day of the week from 12.30 pm tonight. RBI Governor Shaktikant Das made the announcement on Sunday. Earlier in October, the RBI had announced that RTGS would be open 24 hours a day, all days of theweek in December 2020.
The RBI has taken this step to promote digital banking across the country. The use of digital banking has increased in the Corona era. The minimum transfer amount under RTGS is Rs 2 lakh. While there is no limit to the maximum amount. With this system, if you transfer money to the other person’s account, the amount is credited to his account in a few minutes.

In June 2019, the RBI had made the transactions through RTGS and National Electric Fund Transfer (NEFT) free, giving a big gift to the public. The RTGS facility was launched on March 26, 2004. At that time only 4 banks had this service. At present, 6.35 lakh customers transfer about Rs 4.17 lakh crore daily through RTGS and currently 237 banks are offering this facility.
