Emphasized on developing a web, mobile application and SMS based system for effective management of non-commercial communications. So that the ongoing fraud through the misuse of telecommunication resources can be stopped. At the meeting, the communications minister directed the officials to take stern action against individuals and telecom companies involved in the exploitation of telecom customers. Rituals of exploitation include unsolicited commercial messages or calls. Apart from this, they said, telecommunication resources are being used to commit financial fraud and their huge earnings to deceive the general public. Officers were directed to take strict action to stop such activities.
Do-Not Disturb means that DNA service continues to receive phone calls and SMS from registered telemarketers i.e. RTMs to registered customers and further unregistered telemarketers i.e. UTMs are also sending SMS to customers, officials said. The Minister of Communications directed the officials of the Department of Telecommunications along with the tele-marketers to make the DoT officials seriously aware of the issue and ensure compliance with the prescribed rules and procedures in this regard. In case of any violation, financial penalty should be imposed against the tele-marketers in case of repeated violations.
Directs to develop special tactics including blocking communication in view of criminal incidents
Ravi Shankar Prasad also directed to formulate a special strategy to curb fraudulent activities related to the use of telecommunication resources, including blocking communication due to concerns over rising criminal incidents in the ‘Jamtada and Mewat’ areas. Ravi Shankar Prasad believes that the move will further strengthen public confidence in the digital ecosystem and make financial digital transactions more secure and reliable, mainly through mobile. As a result, Digital India will get a boost.
