A three-judge bench headed by Justice L Nageswara Rao said this while hearing a petition filed by Abdul Aziz, a social activist based in the Middle East, which was advancing the interest of Neet students. The petitioner claimed that around 4000 students in the Gulf region were taking NEET, but were unable to travel to India due to the ban on international flights. Aziz wanted the undergraduate MBBS entrance exam to be sought online or, alternatively, an examination center in Qatar and other Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.

Both the National Testing Authority (NTA) and the Medical Council of India (MCI) opposed the petitioner’s request. Earlier on Saturday, MCI filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court informing that there could not be examination centers outside India as it would compromise the uniformity of NEET, and affect the confidentiality of the question papers apart from the risk of leaking of questions Will do. The court considered that the time was too short to extend any benefit to the students stranded in the bay. However, for the coming years, the bench also comprised Justices Hemant Gupta and S. Ravindra Bhatt, who asked MCI lawyer Gaurav Sharma to consider conducting the online examination.

Many students appear in NEET from Gulf, Singapore and Malaysia. Why can’t you think of the (MCI) NEET being online? The bench said that this would cause trouble for many people studying abroad, especially when the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) for engineering courses is being conducted online. The court refused to issue an order to this effect.

The affidavit states that MCI in its affidavit stated that conducting an online examination is out of the question as NEET follows a “paper-book format” and it would compromise the “uniformity” of the exam. It also objected to the demand for NEET examination centers in Qatar and the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) for NEET candidates got stuck there. It has been ordered to conduct an examination like NEET, which is to have a similar examination, it is necessary that the examination should be held everywhere at the same time, which will not be conducted in the examination. Outside countries have a book-based examination for various reasons including various fields, logistic issues, confidentiality of test papers, etc.
